Flow is this special state, where we’re completely absorbed, loving every bit of it. Time and space disappear around us, and afterwards, we re-emerge, feeling amazing. Who has ever felt flow, wants it again. I’m a former ballet dancer turned neuroscientist. In my talk, I reveal the most recent science that shows that people who experience flow regularly have better health and wellbeing than people who don’t. Flow experiences are particularly common in artists, writers, musicians, dancers, surgeons, scientists and other creatives. But they usually can’t explain what it is exactly that makes them tap into flow while they create. Science shows that there are 9 behaviours that we can all enact to find flow. I reveal what they are and why they work. We can ‘reverse-engineer’ flow! You’ll go away with a science-backed, step-by-step guide to find your flow.

These are some of the questions we’ll answer together during the talk: How to tailor a flow routine into our daily life? What are the nine stars of flow? Who are the Eudemonist and the Hedonist Philosophers in charge of pleasure in your brain? How to identify Flow-triggers? Who are the 3 Gods of Mind-Hooking that keep us from tapping into flow? What are Pleasure-Plus Activities (PPAs), and how can we use them for flow? What is the Liking-Wanting Principle (LWP), and what does it have to do with flow? What is your ‘body orchestra’? What do elk teeth have to do with flow? I’d love to tell you.
